2nd Annual Chemistry Day

BUWIC is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Chemistry Day at Boston University on April 30th, 2010.

Students from Boston Community Leadership Academy (BCLA) will travel to BU’s campus for a scientific learning experience.

  • BU Chemistry Department graduate and undergraduate students will guide BCLA students through experiments in their very own lab facilities.
  • BCLA students will tour the main campus and the department’s chemistry labs, viewing short science “demos.”
  • Students will talk with graduate students about academic and professional pursuits in the sciences.
  • The event culminates with an outdoor BBQ in front of Metcalf Center for Science and Engineering.

BUWIC and Chemia have been involved in outreach development with BCLA for the entire spring semester, sending a handful of BU chemistry undergraduates to BCLA to tutor, teach and lead labs in the classroom. BUWIC and Chemia have also extended their “outreach arms” to The English High School (Jamaica Plains) and Fenway High School (Boston) this spring semester. Both organizations will continue to volunteer at these schools during the 2010-2011 academic year.

If your lab is interested in performing a volunteer demo OR if a graduate student is interested in guiding small groups of EHS students around the campus, please contact BUWIC’s Seminar Coordinator:
Rosemary White, rosew@bu.edu
