First Practice of Fall

With our first official practice under our belt, the team is looking forward to our loaded schedule of matches!  Many of our team members stayed in shape for the fall by playing in the grueling summer heat on a 7s team, most choosing to play for Middlesex Falcons, located near the Boston area.  The Falcons, including BUWRFC players Deanna Nash, Alex Hubelbank, and Kendra Lenz, went on to compete in San Francisco, CA in the National Club 7s Championship.

Judging from the first practice, in addition to a successful recruiting period, it is definitely going to be exciting to see players improve not only as individual players, but overall as a team!

Congrats to our New E-Board Members!

Boston University Women's Rugby is happy to announce the latest additions to our E-board. Congrats to our new Social Chair Kendra Lenz and our new Public Relations Officer Lauren McCormack!

Last Game of the Season: BUWRFC v. Providence

BUWRFC  was ready to end their season on a high note as they arrived at Providence College for their last game. The starting lineup consisted of all of our seniors in which they would play their last game together. At half time, the seniors were subbed out in order to showcase a lineup that would predict the Fall 2012 season for BUWRFC. It appeared that PC was no match for the energy and determination that BUWRFC had, ultimately leading to a victory.

Final Score: 41- 29 W

Trys by Ashley Teamer (2), Emma Macdonald, Aubrey Macgill, Izzy Zehner, and Xa Hopkins.

3/6 Conversions were made by Deanna Nash, 0/1 conversions were made by Alex Hublebank.

Beast of the East!

Day 1: Warmed up and ready to bring it to the Beast, BU faced an unexpected no-show from Union resulting in a forfeit and a win BUWRFC. After spending the day observing and watching the best of the beast, BU was pumped and ready to go. From the moment they stepped on the pitch, BU was ready to take what was theirs.   Trys were scored by Aubrey MacGill, Deanna Nash, Alex Hublebank, Abby Smigelski, Alex Krawczuk, and Victoria Denholm. Deanna Nash also completed 2/6 conversions adding to the score.

Match results: BU v. Colby W  39-0

Day 2: The second day of the Beast brought an unexpected element of rain and cold that BUWRFC had to face. After a revved up warm-up BU was ready to play UAlbany. Stepping up there defense and driving over rucks BU did not allow a try to go pass them. Trys were scored by Aubrey MacGill (2) and Emma Macdonald

Semi-Final Results: BU v. UAlbany W 19-0

The second match of the day would be more challenging for BUWRFC. While the mantra "at least its not snowing" floated around, rain and injuries were an extra challenge BU would face in their match against URI. Although played with great effort and energy, it appeared that BU could not capitalize on the mistakes made by both teams.  BU would leave the pitch receiving second place in Division II Beast of the East Rugby Tournament. Great Job Ladies

Final Match: BU v. URI L 0-29

Spring Season Match Update!

BU v. BC lineout

BU v. BC lineout

With a large and experienced senior class graduating soon, this season has turned to be a transitional season for BUWRFC. Recognizing that "you cannot be the best without playing the best" BUWRFC challenged themselves by scheduling matches with teams in the top of their divisions. As a result many players have stepped up in leadership roles and by trying out new positions such as Deanna Nash taking on the role of Flyhalf, Izzy Zehner taking on the inside and outside center, and Kendra Lenz taking on Fullback. The results have not gone our way but BUWRFC is taking the effort and determination from the past three matches to bring it to the BEAST OF THE EAST and prepare for next Fall Season. Each match played has displayed improvement from the beginning of the season.
