Showa Boston Institute for Language and Culture, an affiliate of Showa
Women’s University Tokyo, has an immediate opening for a Program
Services Coordinator.

Job Title: Program Services Coordinator

Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Director of Student Services

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Assistant Director,
perform a variety of functions requiring bi-lingual/bi-cultural skills
and perspective. Support Student Services project areas including:
program assessment, student travel, strategic planning, orientation,
festivals, immigration, and design of presentations for Boston Life and
Wellness classes. Assume general administrative responsibilities as part
of the Student Services team.

Student Services Duties
* Produce and update key planning documents; such as the Institutional
Planning Calendar, Summary of Tokyo-Boston Itineraries, and Wing
Assignments Chart
* Coordinate departmental assessment efforts for review and revision of
programs and projects; including design, implementation, and tabulation
of evaluation tools
* Coordinate Student Services’ use of the Japan Culture Center
* Manage the system of student-initiated, independent travel, including
communication with parents in Japan
* Coordinate departmental activities and documents for short-term programs
* Coordinate departmental activities and documents for new student
orientations
* Bi-lingual resource to provide the following functions

Design and presentation of lessons for Boston Life and Wellness classes
o Create reports for Showa Tokyo (Coming of Age, Festival, Japan Day, etc.)
o Develop and update pre-departure (in Tokyo) orientation materials
o Design and update bi-lingual medical forms for the Health Office
o Design and produce flyers, announcements, and signs

* Assist in the intake, processing, production, and maintenance of
SEVIS-required documents for incoming foreign students
* Assist with student arrivals and departures, including airport
pick-up/drop-offs
* Serve as a bi-lingual, bi-cultural resource for students to maximize
their understanding of American lifestyles/cultural values and of
Student Services programs and services
* Chaperon student trips including overnight/weekends, such as the
Niagara Falls weekend
* Attend Student Services events both on-campus and off-campus
Student Services Team Duties
* Work a flexible schedule, including some nights, weekends, and holidays
* Attend departmental meetings and functions. Meet with supervisor for
project management and strategic communication
* Participate in the After-hours Manager duty rotation
* Support other Student Services staff as needed or as assigned by
supervisor

Skills
* Significant experience with and sensitivity to Japanese culture.
Fluency in (spoken and written) Japanese and English
* Solid organizational, interpersonal, intercultural, communication,
strategic planning and negotiation skills
* Ability to design, produce, and evaluate campus and community-based
intercultural activities and trips
* Capacity to work well as a team member and independently
* Working knowledge of relevant Windows-based PC software
Requirements
* University degree
* Experience in international Student Services within a residential
university campus
* International living or study abroad experience, particularly in Japan
