Job Description: Staff Advisor to Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner on energy and clean tech issues, business outreach
Assemblywoman Skinner is seeking a staff person to assist her business outreach, legislative agenda and programmatic work as the Chair of the Select Committee on California’s Clean Energy Economy. This is a full-time staff position. The location of this position can be at her Capitol or District office or split between Sacramento and Oakland.
Some of the job responsibilities include:
1) Through research and monitoring of current trends keep Assemblymember Skinner up to date on technological, economic, policy and other developments in the clean energy, renewable energy and energy efficiency fields.
2) Serve as a liaison between the Office of Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner and the business community on energy issues and clean energy related legislation. Reach out to the business community for input on policy development. Work with companies and other stakeholders to identify needs and shape policy input to ensure environmental integrity and economic benefits from state energy policy.
3) Serve as staff to the select committee on California’s Clean Energy Economy, working with Assemblywoman Skinner to create an agenda and work plan, organize committee hearings and stakeholder meetings, and prepare related materials.
4) Monitor policies under consideration in state and federal governmental agencies such as US EPA and DOE, California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission, the Air Resources Board, others. Provide advice to the Assemblywoman on when/how to contribute to policy discussions.
5) Monitor clean energy related developments in the market, research fields, technology space and investment community.
6) Draft responses on policy and legislation on behalf of the Assemblywoman to such audiences as the media, the public, agency heads, other government officials, business community, and more.
This position reports to the Legislative Director in the Office of Assemblymember Nancy Skinner. Compensation will be based on experience.
Requirements: Knowledge of clean-energy policies. Experience working with policymakers and businesses.
