Post-doc Energy Position

Post-doctoral Associate at Cornell University

Biochar systems analysis and project coordination

The post-doctoral associate will conduct resource modeling of biomass flows,
potential biochar production, energy, greenhouse gas, and economic flows for a
diverse set of biochar-bioenergy systems in Kenya. The incumbent will also
coordinate interdisciplinary research and development projects on the
environmental, economic and energy aspects of biochar, with the expectation
that the analyses will expand to other African countries. The studied biochar
systems cut across stove applications with reduction of indoor air pollution
and village-scale bioenergy systems. The position is integrated in a
multi-investigator program including analyses of molecular composition of
biochar, microbial population dynamics in soil, development of cook stove and
gas conversion technology, agronomy of biochar soil management, and the
economics of bioenergy systems.

Requirements: PhD in environmental sciences, industrial ecology or related
disciplines; experience in resource modeling (such as life cycle assessment,
systems dynamics, and/or spatially explicit modeling); excellent
quantitative/analytical skills; interest or experience working in Africa, on
soils, and on biochar; willingness to work at Cornell and travel to Kenya on a
regular basis; proven record of very good writing skills including proposal;
strong communication skills to integrate and coordinate a large group of
scientists across disciplines.

Review of applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The
position is full-time for initially 3 years.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, and names of three references.
