Before settling down to Thanksgiving dinner, BU Roller hockey traveled to Old Bethpage, NY for four games. Boston did not wake up too well for their early morning first contest against Binghamton. The team battled, but came out on the wrong side of a 7-1 decision.
Game two against Millersville was a different story. Facing an understaffed Millersville squad, BU took out early morning frustrations in a 13-4 victory. Tucker Franz put up the first two goals of his BU career, finishing with 4 points in the game, Ethan Shibutani had a hat trick, and Kevin “Tall Kevin” Robitaille put up 7 points.
In game three, BU faced off against a Scranton team hungry to avenge a preseason loss. In a tight, back and forth, game, BU managed to come out on top with a 3-2 win. George Huber played well in the cage while Shibutani, Franz, and Terrier captain Steve Strohsahl all put the puck in the net. This was a big win against a team the Terriers are fighting for playoff positioning with.
For the Sunday morning game, the Terriers faced off against Queens College. BU fought from the get go against one of the league’s premier teams, eventually coming up short in a 4-1 loss after giving up 2 goals in the third. Despite the loss, the game proved that the Terriers can skate with the top teams in the ECRHA and will continue to fight for the playoffs.
Going into Winter Break, the Terriers are 6-5-0 with 12 points, good enough for 6th place in Division II’s field of fifteen. During the homestretch, it seems they will be battling UMass Amherst , SUNY Albany, and University of Delaware for positioning and the final three playoff spots.
Off the rink, the Terriers are getting involved in the community. BU Inline has raised almost $1,000 for prostate cancer awareness through their Movember campaign, and they will be involved with FitRec’s Toys-for-Tots.
Happy Holidays!
