The Terriers headed to Feasterville for the 2012 ECRHA All-Star weekend. Andrew Hanlon represented the Terriers in the All-Star game while Kevin Robitaille, Matt Sullivan and Steve Strohsahl joined him in the skills competition. While the Terrier All-Stars were knocked out of their competitions, they represented Boston University proudly.
The Terriers struggled in their regular season games as they finished with only one win and three losses. In the tournament opener, the Terriers lost 4-2 to division rival Vermont. The Terriers could never seem to get it going against the Catamounts, and their struggles continued against top-seeded Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh proved why they are the ECRHA’s top ranked team in the 9-3 Terrier loss. Despite the size of the loss, the Terriers gave a much better effort than they did against Vermont.
Saturday evening, BU took on the Cornell Big Red. The Terriers put in a good effort and took a 2-1 win even though the Terrier All-Stars were exhausted from a day at the rink. Freshman Mark Flitsch came up with 26 saves to earn the first star of the game in his first start, while Steve Strohsahl and Matt Sullivan contributed with goals. Mike Carpenter and Dan Sylvestre each had an assist in the Terrier win. The Terriers were not as fortunate in their Sunday game against rival UMass Amherst. BU lost a back and forth game 6-5. They will not have to wait long for another shot at the Minutemen as they play them in their next game.
Despite the disappointing weekend, the Terriers still control their own playoff destiny. If BU can beat Albany and either UMass or Northeastern, they will clinch at least the eighth seed in the ECRHA regional tournament.
