My best wishes go out to the Witzburg family, and I hope you have a quick and healthy recovery.

Bob,

I shall never forget the time during your interview for the position of Associate Dean for Admiision and I asked you for the one thing, not present in your CV, that you felt was important for our committee to know. Your response, “I have the most wonderful wife and marriage that anyone could possibly have” touched me (and Pat when I shared it) deeply.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Lorraine.

Bob and Lorraine,
Cindy and I stand by to help and support both of you and family if there is anything that we can do. Cindy, Kristin and I will all join the bone marrow drive in the hope that this will help as well.

My entire congregation on Sunday will have a matched donor within our prayers. I’ve spoken to many colleagues about the registry (as I’m a long time registrant), and I’m certain the 25th will be a special day for us all. All our best, ~Rob

Glenn Barest posted on January 15, 2010 at 5:56 pm

Dear Bob and Lorraine,

I’m already in the registry.

I look forward to hearing news of a positive match for you and for better things to come in the near future.

Please let me know if I can be helpful with any other kind of support.

I am so sorry, but I hope that I can help. I have blood type B+. If that is the right blood type, I will return to the hospital after my overnight shift for bone marrow registration. If not, I will make a donation for you.

Thinking of you all. Bob and Lorraine have been inspirational to me since I attended a picnic at your home when I was a BCH intern way back in 1992. Thanks for sharing your family’s story.

Hi Lorraine,

I hope that you feel better soon. Although I do not know you personally, I can only imagine how great a person you must be sine you have inspired Bob a medical practitioner and educator whom all of us have the utmost respect for at BU/BMC. My family and myself have you in our prayers and thoughts continuously and wish that you continue to improve daily

Sara Nadelman posted on January 20, 2010 at 3:58 pm

Dear Witzburgs,

I wish you all strength in what must be an incredibly challenging time. It is clear your love for each other will get you through this.

I am a marrow registrant and I pray you find a match and make a quick recovery.

Dear Lorraine.

I clearly recall hearing Dean WItzburg speaking fondly of you on my BU interview day years ago, and was quite saddened to hear about this most recent news. Please know that there are many med students pulling for you… My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

To the Witzburg family – Let me echo Jessica’s comment that the med student body was collectively heartbroken to hear the news about your illness. I think everyone who matriculates to BUSM has heard Dean Witzburg speak about his beloved family at some point. Our thoughts and prayers are with you – we’re all pulling for you!

Dear Witzburgs,

I am sending a constant stream of positive vibes your way. While I am away from BMC on January 25th, I have already registered for the bone marrow registry and am awaiting my swab in the mail. You are truly an inspiring family (each and every one of you)! I am confident in a swift recovery. Please, if you need anything, don’t hesitate to call on me. I think the world of all of you.

Love,

To the Witburg family:
I have had the pleasure of working with Bob for the past 4 years and have known him to be one of the most dedicated and hard-working individuals I have known at BU. As my classmates have often said, he is “the reason they chose BU,” and I can only imagine the inspiration he gains from you all. My family has experienced a recent loss, so from the bottom of our hearts, please know that you and your family are in my thoughts.

I wish you the best in this difficult time. You should be proud that your beloved BU has brought together so many people toward finding a donor match.
All my best.

Dear Bob and Lorraine,
Rick and I trust that your love and strength will carry you through these very trying times. Know that you receive prayers and support from us and many others from the BMC and DS community. Our thoughts go out to you and your family during this difficult period.

For all of the bad stuff that these times can bring, they also expose much of the good in others. People that you don’t even know are praying for you! I have never met Lorraine, but anyone who loves and is loved so much by Bob Witzburg is surely a wonderful person. I think often about both of you and your daughters. I pray for wellness and peace for your family.

Fondly,
MaryAnn Wilbur

Dear Lorraine and Bob,

When you get to our age and if your don’t already know it, it is the relationships in life that give meaning to it. Having observed you over the years, it has been immensely clear that you both share a love and caring that is life sustaining.

Lorraine, your illness should not happen to anyone, least of all someone of your kindness, warmth, and genuine joy for living.
You are in my thoughts.

Dear Lorraine and Bob,

I think of you and pray for you often. Having family and friends at this time is so very important and wonderful.

I want to share a short story I hope will bring you hope.

My dad was diagnosed with Leukemia on Good Friday, April 1980. He want through a very difficult time with his treatments. He was cured of his Leukemia and lived until 2003. In those years that he called “a gift” he welcomed 5 additional grandchildren and a greatgrandchild into his life. Our family considers this our miracle.

This is what I pray happens for you and your family.

Dear Witzburg family,
I am so, so sorry to hear of Lorraine’s illness. Bob, you have always been here to support and inspire me and so many medical students (I will never forget the day you told us that being a doctor is being a revolutionary), and I only wish there was more that I could do. Thank you for being a model of such incredible strength and compassion. You are in my heart and in my prayers.
All my best,

Dear Mrs. Witzburg,

You were my French teacher at D-S a million years ago, and I always considered you one of my favorites. 🙂 You have always been a strong and positive person, and I pray that will see you through your illness. Just remember to never feel guilty though, when you experience days when you feel weak and frustrated. It’s clear you are loved by a vast community of friends, family and colleagues. I add my love and prayers to those already expressed. 🙂

Love,
