Who is eligible to tryout?
Tryouts are open to all full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled at Boston University and are in good academic standing. All levels of experience are welcome to tryout. Not only are we looking for dancers with strong skills and technique, but also excellent performers. Do not assume that a weakness in any one area will automatically disqualify you as a team member. We will be looking for dancers who are eager to learn and display a positive attitude at all times.
What skills will I be asked to demonstrate?
- Leg hold
- Toe-touch
- Turning Disc
- Calypso Leap
- Grand Jete
- Second Leap
- Switch Leaps
- Double and triple pirouettes (show us quads if you have them!)
- Fouette (a la seconde) turns
- 1-3 skills of your choice (hip hop or gymnastic skills appreciated)
What do I need to bring with me to tryouts?
- A short routine that you believe accurately displays your dance abilities!
- Your own music (we have an aux cord, so putting your music on your phone/iPod works just fine)
- Registration Form & Medical Waiver (Can be found under the Tryouts Tab of our website)
- $20 Registration Fee
- Headshot
- Appropriate footwear (jazz shoes and sneakers recommended)
- Water
What should I wear to tryouts?
- Tight fitting clothing (Ex. tank top or crop top & shorts)
- Appropriate footwear (jazz shoes and sneakers recommended)
- Make sure your hair is secure & you are wearing performance-ready makeup
