Dori’s presentation was really clear and precise and it let me think about my own presentation carefully. I think my argument could be as simple as I want. Dori declared one topic for her portfolio, but she also used many additional sources to help her enrich her portfolio essay. For example, she described her writing experience in her high school and she thought she was good at writing at that time, but she now found she is actually not because she got some suggestions of her essay from professor Kim. I think this is good because she could make progress thorough professor’s comments. In my portfolio I also want to refer to professor’s comment because I can really learn from it and I think my three papers are a kind of progression, too.
Dori’s main focus is how she realized that food is far more than just sustenance. In my visit to an Ethiopian restaurant, I also felt what she realized. My first visit was with all the members in my group and the meal is probably the most “academic “meal in my life because I have never asked such a lot of questions in a restaurant. It is also my first time to talk with a manager about the culture of her nationality, the construction and decoration of her restaurant and her experience of business. I felt very satisfied after we finished our first trip because the experience is really special. This is what I learned from this course and I believe this kind of experience could never happen to me if I did not take this class.
