An impressive memory of food of mine happened when I go back to my hometown when I was about 6-year-old. My hometown is a small village in Shanxi, China. Almost every one eats the same food on every day, the food is – Saozi Noodle. Saozi Noodle is a special local food in Shanxi. Shanxi people love eating noodles, especially Saozi Noodles.
The noodles are relatively thin. Fried eggs, carrots, potatoes and long bean are all cut in fragments and applied on the top of the noodles. They are all different colors and stands for different blessings. The noodles are usually cooked with soup and a special chilli powder would be put in soup. So Saozi noodle is usually spicy. (medium spicy)
When I first ate Saozi noodle, the spicy soup choked me and I was surprised that almost all the people in the village eat Saozi noodle every day. Though my hometown is Shanxi, I was born and grow up in Hainan, a very south province which is far away from Shanxi. People in south China usually eat rice instead of noodles, and they also do not like eating spicy food. So I felt I was different from my relatives when I go back to my hometown. I still like eating rice now but I take Saozi Noodle as a precious culture heritage of my hometown.
