Tuesday’s Meeting (10/21/2008)

Hi everyone,

For those of you who missed last night’s meeting, here’s what went on:

Our Buy a Board fund raiser was successful in aising $575 and that
means that so far we have raised $22,500 towards the Bedford House!
Thank you to everyone who came and helped out.

Because Buy a Board was successful last weekend, we are going to do it
again this weekend, the 24th and 25th, which is Alumni Weekend. We have
lots of spots open for all the shifts (Friday 11-4 and Saturday 11-3).
We especially need people to help out on Saturday any time and Friday
3-4.  If you can work an hour or two either day, email our Fund Raising
Chair Amanda at ajcarloz@bu.edu .

We have a Build Trip planned this Saturday to Salem, but we have no
chaperone yet, so it may be cancelled. For those of you who signed up
for it, you will hear by tonight whether or not we’re still going.

We are going to Birmingham, Alabama for our spring break trip this
year. We will be building all week and we already have vans and
chaperones.  There will be 18 spots open and sign ups will be in
January.

We have another little fund raiser planned for next friday evening,
Halloween.  It’s called Trick or Change, and members will be going
trick-or-treating for donations.  We will be done early, as to not
interfere with everyone’s Halloween plans. I’ll send out more
information next week but if anyone is definitely interested or has
suggestions for neighborhoods which we should go to, please email
Amanda as well, at ajcarloz@bu.edu.

If you can, help out with Buy a Board or Trick or Change!

Sincerely,
Emily Nolan

First Fund Raiser!

>
Hi Guys,

We have a new website, which is still a work in progress, but it has a
calendar of events and meetings. If you want to check it out, the link
is http://people.bu.edu/habitat/.

Also, as you probably know, this weekend is parent's weekend. It's also
our first fund raiser, Buy a Board! from 12-4pm on Friday and Saturday
we will have a table set up in Marsh Plaza where we'll have 2x4's that
will actually go into building our habitat house. We are asking for a
donation to sign these boards. There are still open spots for
volunteers to work this event, so if anyone is free and interested,
email our fund raising chair Amanda at ajcarloz@bu.edu . All of the
money raised will go towards our Bedford house fund, so bring your
parents and friends and come sign a board!

Sincerely,
Emily Nolan

Marsh Chapel has invited Habitat to join them for their second annual
CROP Walk on Sunday, October 12 at 12:30 pm.  CROP stands for
Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. 25% of what is raised will
be dedicated to a local charity, which will be our BU Habitat House

cropwalkonline.org. click on Massachusetts and then the Boston
University Crop Hunger Walk link to join a team or donate money.

We need all the help we can get, and you will be helping us reach our

Help Us Raise Money

Hi guys,

In case you haven't heard or didn't see the dunk tank outside of the
GSU yesterday, this week is "Philanthropy Week" hosted by the Greek
Life on campus. Every day, there will be different events either at the
GSU or in front of Marsh Chapel to raise money, and all of the proceeds
will be going to Habitat forHumanity!

The events for this week are:
Tuesday 9/9: Pie Eating Contest
Wednesday 9/10: Tie-dying T-shirts in front of Marsh Chapel
Thursday 9/11: "Get Wet" (water balloons?)
Friday 9/12: Sumo Wrestling!

All the money that Greek Life is able to raise will go towards our
$50,000 fundraising goal for this year to sponsor our own BU house in
Bedford, Ma. We will have a presentation on this house at our first
general meeting, which will be held Tuesday, September 23rd at 8:00 in
STO B50 (basement of CAS.

So tell your friends and try to participate in Philanthropy week to
help Habitat raise money!

Thanks,
Emily Nolan
