Going to See Barack? — Catch the Vibe on Campus or in DC

[Vibe for this post comes from John Legend’s If You’re Out There]

Students have organized a viewing extravaganza in the George Sherman Union.  We’ll have every television set tuned to Inauguration events – including the big screens in BU Central and the Thurman Center.  You’ll also be able to watch the festivities on two large screens in the GSU’s Metcalf Ballroom.  Professors are welcomed to bring classes and the School of Theology’s Reverend Dr. Dale P. Andrews will offer remarks and reflections on the theme, From King’s Legacy to Obama’s Promise, at 11 a.m. The Inauguration ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m.  Word on the street is that students will be gathering in the Thurman Center for an impromptu Inauguration Ball on Tuesday evening (check with the Thurman Center on the start time).

Are you going to D.C.? Are you there yet?  Do yourself a favor – write down your reflections, blog about it, snap some pictures, record a conversation or two, draw pictures, tweet, create a song, keep a notebook for the piece you’ll spit or write later.  Many of you have told me that you have faith that we are living in an extraordinary moment and that the world will wake up on January 20, to bear witness to true history.  We’re all convinced that this is a time where we want to be able to describe what we were doing when Barak Obama took the oath of office for the Presidency of the United States. This is an experience.  Find a way to catch the vibe and share it – whether you’re in D.C. or not.  And, if you’re in D.C. you must find a way to grab this spirit and tell me about it when you get back.

Be safe and stay well.  Peace.
