Apparently the footwear industry is a litigious group. Athletic footwear has always been an innovative industry. I remember when Air Jordans came out, and the idea of an air pocket in the sole of a sneaker was the next great thing. More recently, we saw claims of toning sneakers, shoes that made you more fit just by walking around in them. Those claims were challenged by the Federal Trade Commission, an administrative agency that protects consumer. And now we have have barefoot sneakers. Designed to simulate running barefoot, the company that makes them claims that running in barefoot shoes is healthier. Be careful what you claim, however, because they have now been sued by a Florida woman that disputes those claims, and in fact argues that the shoes can be more dangerous for runners. Personally, I find the shoes so ugly that they are dangerous to people around the runners wearing them. But I am not sure I can sue for that.

I’m not sure if barefoot shoes will improve or damage runners health, but I have seen many people running in such kind of shoes in FitRec! I believe these shoes are lighter and easier for running, but it still takes time for consumers to prove whether wearing barefoot sneakers have bad effects on their health.

Let me preface this by saying I ran cross country and track for all four years of high school and I still run often here in Boston. I know a good deal about these shoes but I will admit that I do not own a pair. But a lot of my friends who I previously ran with but who are now college runners at their respective universities do own a pair those very shoes. I will admit that I also thought they were so weird when I first saw them but I have gotten used to seeing them on runners everywhere. My friends that own them absolutely love them. It is true that they dont give a lot of ankle support clearly but they give your foot plenty of padding and protection. I have been told that people having the feeling of running barefoot but have a shoe protecting their feet. They are NOT all purpose shoes that could be used for any kind of sport event or exercise, but as far as purely running goes, I think they are very good for running and this Florida woman may be mistaken in her claim. I feel she is using them in a way that is not conducive to what they are made for.

I have seen many runners wearing toning sneakers before. Personally I find the shoes very ugly and I would never buy the shoes. In addition, I feel it’s very dangerous for runners who wear the shoese because in some ways they are more likely to get hurt. However, as you mentioned in the article, I am not sure whether you can sue the company just because you find its products are dangerous to customers.

Apparently I’ve heard that the claim is that humans, by nature, do not need shoes. Shoes were something invented by humans to make walking/running/our everyday lives easier but we were naturally not meant to have them. Supposedly these particular shoes give us the protection, yet can take us back to our “natural” state in our work outs. I can’t say that I agree…

I think it really doesn’t matter how the people wearing them feel because feelings are so abstract and can vary among people. If a company claim that the shoes are “healthier,” they need to provide specific measurements, scientific evidences, etc. to prove that the shoes are in some way healthier than others.

I keep seeing people wearing these now. I would never wear them and I am skeptical as well. But I heard that they are healthier because when people run, they often hit their heels too hard and this causes damage to your legs, especially the knees. Apparently when you run with these ugly shoes, your body adjusts and it’s “better” for you. Again, I’m skeptical but my take on it is that if you don’t like them, just don’t buy them.

One of my friends has these shoes. She told me it is very comfortable running with them and it is health. I cannot understand why people feel it is dangerous. Also I do think we can sue the company just because the product may be dangerous.

Running with real sneakers may be the healthier option because you are not straying your legs muscles as much as if you were running barefoot.

My older brother and I can argue for days on end about these shoes. He’s the type that likes to keep up with the new technologies and this is where his main argument lies in favor of these hideous shoes. Last summer we left our house together to go to the gym. I took one look at his feet and was absolutely mortified. I couldn’t control my extreme hatred of those things. They remind me of flippers, and furthermore, how uncomfortable to they look? A piece of something wedged between every toe? How do you even put them one easily? Do you have to separate each toe like if you were putting on a glove (at least thats easier because our fingers are longer and we have more control over them) I digress. But in all honesty, I think, much like the butt buster shoes, these are a personal preference trend. Fitness is fitness and at the end of the day, the type of shoe you wear will not drastically influence your body. However, changing what your body is used to, ie switching to the barefoot shoe, will result in damaging consequences if you aren’t prepared to change they way you run.

As the caption says, yes an ugly pair but worthy to be worn on feet for all standard terrains whether mud or rock solid floor. The truth is that these are great shoes, but at the same time too much dangerous. Especially in case of toe nails and other feet fingers, the danger of damaging these may not be neglected at any cost.
