Welcome to the Boston University Jiu Jitsu Club!

Hi everyone!

Thank you all so much for coming to see us at SPLASH yesterday– all 250 of you! We’re so happy to see so many new faces, and we’re very glad that you’re interested in starting your martial arts experience at BU with us.

Our first practice begins on Tuesday in FitRec room L137 at 8pm. No experience in martial arts or sports is necessary whatsoever! All practices are in room L137 and if you would like to join us in other practices, here is the weekly schedule:

  • Tuesday: Jiu Jitsu (8pm-11pm)
    Thursday: Open Mat (8pm-11pm)
     Friday: Muay Thai (7pm-10pm)
    • Sunday: Open Mat (7pm-10pm)

A few things for you to do or to bring with you for practices:

  • Athletic Clothing: We recommend that your wear tight fitting athletic clothing (e.g: a t-shirt and athletic shorts). Wearing compression underwear and bringing a sporting mouth guard are highly recommended.
  • A Water Bottle: You will be sweating, so it’s very important to hydrate often.
  • Cleanliness and Good Health: Jiu Jitsu is a full contact sport, so people will be sweating on you (and you will be sweating on them)! To make this less disgusting for everyone, please come with good personal hygiene. And if you’re sick that day, please take the day off to rest; there will be many more practices in the future.
  • Responsibility for Safety: As a club for combat sports enthusiasts, we are faced with safety risks every practice. It is therefore up to every member to be responsible for his or her own safety, as well as the safety of other club members. Put your ego aside and please don’t go excessively hard on your sparring partners! After all, we’re all here to learn and have fun!

(Also, let your drilling or sparring partners know if you have any pre-existing medical condition that may be at risk in training.)

  • Willingness to Learn and Humility:

Our club is based on self-development and respect for others. Again, leave your ego at the door, and come to practice with your keenness to learn from our instructors and your fellow peers. We do not tolerate any condescending behavior in this club.

  • Facebook Page:

Follow our Facebook page for updates! We’re a lot more active there.

Again, no experience in martial arts is necessary, so please don’t feel intimidated to show up. We are anything but a club full of scary killers, and we all just want to have fun!

We’ll see you on the mats soon!
