First Tournament at Wesleyan: Summary and More!

Happy Spring Break BU! Our girls are enjoying wonderful spring breaks skiing on the slopes of Lake Tahoe, soaking up the sun in  Puerto Rico, exploring the windy hills of Ireland, or embracing their inner couch potato at home. It has been a wild start to the semester academically and aquatically.

Fun fact, we had a tournament and here are the highlights:

Saturday, Febuary 25th 2017 – Our ladies left early Saturday morning for Wesleyan University to play their first game that afternoon against Wesleyan. Freshman sprinter Mary Cerkvenik dominated in her debut game (and the games to follow), leading the team at the start of the whistle. It was a tight battle for all four quarters but BU came out with a 13-10 win over Wesleyan. Unfortunately, the second game against Dartmouth proved less successful with a 10-2 loss for BU. Our terriers fought hard but did not have the endurance and speed to keep up with Dartmouth’s offense.

On Sunday morning our girls faced off against UMass Amherst, losing by one point in the final seconds. Despite many shot opportunities, our girls could not get past UMass’s goalie, yielding a low scoring first three quarters. Freshman and retired goalie Madie Janik lead BU with an outstanding offensive surge, scoring two quick goals at the start of the fourth. Our terriers made up a five goal deficit but were unfortunately defeated 7-8 in the last shot clock. In our final game of the weekend, BU overcame last year’s champions, Middlebury, in an 11-7 win.

The weekend ended with two wins and two loses. Senior and captain Ashley Reischman rounded up eight goals for the weekend, leading the team in scoring. Our 5th string (yes, you read that correctly) goalie Mia Kato gave a tremendous four performances this weekend and our team couldn’t be prouder.

Despite the setbacks faced early on in the season, our cheetahs have the spirit and the potential to rock this semester. After a well-deserved and restful Spring Break, we’ll be back in the water with plenty of leg sets and drills to prepare us for our April tournaments.
