Women Undefeated after First Tournament!

BU women’s water polo completed their first tournament of the season 3-0 bringing down Yale, Wellesley, and Bowdoin. The Terriers hosted the tournament, playing two games on Saturday and one Sunday afternoon. BU came out strong in their first game against Yale with a convincing 18-4 victory dominated by the offense of Maeve O’Connor and Allie Delillo. Yale was one of BU’s biggest competitors last year, but with a few key players graduated, the Terriers had no problem shutting them down.

The second game of the day, featured BU against Wellesley College, who could not field a full team so had to forfeit. Although BU received a 5-0 win for the forfeit, the two teams still played for practice with Wellesley borrowing some BU players to fill a team. We also had a surprise visit from two alumni who happened to bring suits with them and hopped in the pool to join in the polo fun! Shout out Julia Zurek and Bridget Eastes.

The cheetahs, energized from their two wins on Saturday, faced a strong Bowdoin team Sunday afternoon. Bowdoin is the defending North Atlantic Champions and the girls knew they had to score first and play tough defense if they wanted to win. With a slow first quarter, BU came back in the end to defeat Bowdoin 10-9. A real nail biter!

Congratulations to all the fresh babies on competing in their first league tournament! The team is headed down to Yale February 28-March 1 for the second tournament of the season. The girls hope to carry their momentum and dominate once again!

Kick-Starting the 2012 Season With Some Wins!

The Lady Terriers started their season off right last weekend with three wins and one very close loss.

First, the Terriers went up against Dartmouth, who has had a very strong team for the past two years. In 2010 and 2011, Dartmouth and Boston College have contended for the title of League Champions. This weekend, the Terriers came out on top defeating Dartmouth with a final score of 9-5.

The Terrier's second game, Yale, was the toughest one of the weekend. The Terriers endured a tough loss to the Bulldogs with a final score of 9-8 but plan on making a comeback at the next tournament in April.

In the third game of the day, the Terriers took on Williams and came out with a win and a final score of 13-5. This was an especially satisfying win for the Terriers who were unexpectedly defeated by Williams at last year's Championship tournament.

The last game of the weekend against the newest addition to the New England Division, Middlebury, turned out to be a success for the Terriers who took the game with a final score of 11-5.

With such a strong start to the season, the Terriers are hoping to go all the way this year!
