About Us

Mission and Execution

The Nerve is Boston University’s premier undergraduate journal of the mind & brain. We aim to support undergraduate students seeking to share their passion for neuroscience and psychology with faculty, other students, and the general public. Our mission statement reads as follows:

The purpose of The Nerve is to provide a platform for undergraduate students to publish their work related to the mind and brain sciences (including neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy). We seek to spark conversation and fuel passionate exploration regarding the very biological structures that allow us to think, to feel, to remember, and to question.

Throughout the academic year The Nerve hosts educational workshops & activities for writers, editors, and designers. Our work culminates in our annual journal publication, which will be released every May. Besides our journal publication, The Nerve Blog posts shorter form pieces throughout the academic year.

The Nerve is a subsidiary organization of Mind & Brain Society, an affiliate of the Undergraduate Program in Neuroscience at Boston University.

Structure

The Nerve is primarily organized around our annual May journal publication. This typically consists of weekly meetings held on Sundays at 5pm. However, we also support outreach and activities throughout the year to promote faculty-student relationships.

Members may earn attendance points at general meetings, which will contribute towards eligibility for E-Board status. There is a 10-point minimum to apply for E-Board positions in April.

The Nerve Symposium

The purpose of our annual Symposium event is to offer exceptional contributors to The Nerve the opportunity to present their work to faculty and staff. This allows students to publicize their name within the Boston University community and demonstrate both their passion and hard work at a dedicated speaking event.

Candidates for The Nerve Symposium will be chosen from submissions to our journal and our blog by the E-Board.
