Fudan data, Taiwan, 1988

“In China, inquiries were made to about 25 high school principals in different parts of the country; only one, in Shanghai, agreed to participate. Of course, no single school could be broadly representative of Chinese adolescents (there are reportedly over 500 middle schools in Shanghai alone). Also, it was not possible to pretest the instrument with students in China. But to our knowledge there exists no other dataset of this size concerning the uses and functions of television in the lives of adolescents in China. The sample (N = 1120) is evenly split between males and females and among 10th, 11th and 12th graders; the data were collected in 1988.”
