Review on Sample Ethnography Essays

All these sample ethnography papers start with introductions about the authors’ main topics (or their concerns), which let them make their observations. Some of  these essays are about social norms and standards, others are about health. Then, the writers begin to describe the places where they are going to observe, such as what the place is look like and where they are located. After that, the main parts of the essays are about the people in those locations and the steps of how the authors observe or how they find out the answers to their questions (concerns). From the papers, I find that they not only observe those people but also communicate with them in order to get more specific and accurate results. Finally, they give conclusions about what they have observed and what their observations reflect based on their concerns. The whole paper is clear, well-organized and easy for readers to understand, especially the first one, which I like the most.

  1. This breakdown of ethnography essays is really helpful! I especially appreciate your point about how the authors don’t just observe, but also communicate with people to get more accurate results. That active engagement is so crucial for understanding any group, whether in a physical community or even within a game’s player base. For example, when I was trying to understand the meta for a tactical game, I found that reading guides and talking with other players on a dedicated wiki gave me a much richer picture than just watching matches alone. Thanks for sharing this clear framework!

  2. This breakdown of ethnography essays is really helpful. I especially appreciate your point about how the authors move from observation to communication—it’s that interaction that really brings the research to life. It reminds me of how character creators think when building a persona, observing traits and then fleshing them out through imagined dialogue and backstory. For anyone interested in that kind of creative ethnographic process for characters, there’s a handy free OC generator tool that can help spark those initial observations. Thanks for sharing your analysis!
