A) In RTI:

1) Read pp. 163-165.

This unit is about legalized gambling.

Do the vocabulary exercise on p. 165-166.

2) Review the vocabulary from Unit 8:  p. 147 for a vocabulary test section.

B) Find a short news item that interests you, and be ready to tell the class about it.

This will be a speaking assessment.

Time length:   30 seconds to 2 minutes

 

On Monday you will have a listening test together with a vocabulary test (Unit 8 of RTI).

Also, the news presentation will be a speaking assessment.

3) Choose an event from the BU International Education Week that you and 1, 2, or 3 other students from our class will attend this week, and be ready to report on it, as a group, to the class on Wed., Nov. 19, or Mon., Nov. 24.

1) Role play–In RTI

Read Pp. 35-36 again:

Be ready to take your assigned role on Monday, when we will do the role play about the issue of fraternities and sororities on the Dartmouth campus.

You will have a short time to work in your group with classmates with the same role.  (See below.)

Then we will have a role play of a campus meeting, and each of you will be expected to participate actively, speaking clearly, in your assigned role.

2) Be ready to give a 2-4 minute speech about an important experience that you had and about what effect it has had on your life.  Practice it before Monday.  You will be expected to have a lot of eye contact with the audience, not only me.  If you wish, you may use some written notes but may not read your speech.
