From July 1 to 5, 2023, I visited Taipei, Taiwan alongside colleagues of The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) of The Netherlands. Given the geopolitical tensions across the Taiwan Straits and the crucial importance of chips, our visit was filled with discussions with local policymakers, academics and industry persons on contingency scenarios, U.S.-China tensions and the upcoming presidential election in Taiwan. TSMC and its performance and plans at home and abroad was definitely the most discussed topic.
