Happy Valentine’s Day, BU! Show some love.

Hope you’re all enjoying V-Day, Terriers. Today would be a great time to show some love to our favorite Dean of Students – Dean Elmore! Vote for him in the Shorty Awards!

In honor of Valentine’s Day, Meet One of Our Heartthrobs!

Upon careful consideration, we have come to the conclusion that we have never formally introduced ourselves to you fine folks. And since it's Valentine's Day, what sweeter way to celebrate than to introduce one of our very elite seniors.

The one and only Julia Butler.

Note the necklace.

Note the necklace.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but Julia is from Maine. Like really from Maine. So much from Maine that if I could describe her using three objects, they would be L.L. Bean boots, blueberries, and a voice that can be heard over violent, crashing waves. Beyond being the poster child for Maine, Julia obsesses over television. Mainly British. She may have actually watched too much Downton Abbey, as she has adopted the language. See below tweet.

Flatmates. Really I wasn't joking.

Flatmates. Really I wasn't joking.

However, beyond all of these quirks that make Julia, well Julia, she is an amazing writer and we are very lucky to have her on not only the DOS staff but also as one of the quality students who write for BU FYI. As the spring semester slowly trickles away (sorry guys, it's a fact) I wish her the best of luck after graduation. Here's to small ladies doing big things!

Don't forget to keep checking back to meet us BU! You never know when one of our striking personalities will be featured.

Happy Tuesday!

Abbey

And the Nominees Are…

Hey there, Terriers!

Happy Jerzday! Oops—did I say that?

I'd like to thank you for taking a moment away from BU Memes to focus on something else (because let's be honest, you were either reading them or cursing that they still exist). What we have for you today is pretty cool, and I know a good number of you will actually benefit from it.

With BU FYI's new site launch, we will be adding a number of new features, some of which will be interactive while others will highlight students here on campus. And that's where I need you. I NEED NOMINEES. The FYI staff is pulling a running list of two things, so see if you can help:

All it takes is a quick FB creep to realize we all know a lot of people... a lot of the SAME people.

1) Students doing something incredible/worth noting for a Terrier Profile.
2) Blogs/websites run by current or former BU students that would be interesting for us to feature.

We go to a school with a LOT of students... you're bound to know someone you think deserves this! So PLEASE. Tweet, facebook or comment here with some ideas and get your friends some recognition. Who knows, we might even throw in some swag for people who make our list...

Keep being you, BU, and I'll be chatting with you soon.

Beanpot Viewing Party! (In other news, we are really good at hockey.)

So, in case you didn't know, the Patriots failed in their second attempt to best the NY Giants in the Super Bowl. I would have probably been inconsolable about this if not for the fact that, the VERY NEXT NIGHT, the Terriers did their best to cheer me up by steamrolling Harvard in the Beanpot, bringing us to the finals against...DUN DUN DUH...BC!

The game, which will be played next Monday, on 2/13, is going to be at the TD Garden - but if you can't get there, BU Central will host a Bean Pot Championship game viewing party. They are GONNA WIN. I can feel it. Be there at BU Central to cheer on the Terriers!

Until then, keep being you, BU!

On or Off? BU’s Housing Expo

Hey there, Terriers!

Screen shot 2012-02-07 at 6.18.19 PMAs an off-campus resident, I have to admit I do not miss the anxiety of waiting for my housing lottery number. Every day, you wait, checking your mailbox. Nervous. Excited. Desperate. You see something. Damn...jury duty. The next day, a letter from your mom. THEN BAM. It arrives, and panic sets in.

Don't get me wrong, on-campus living can be pretty fantastic. I mean, Stuvi2 looks like a high-class hotel, and I wouldn't mind living there, even if I have to sell blood every other day to afford it... BUT if you're thinking about taking that big step off-campus, here's a little help.

Presenting to you: The BU Off-Campus Hosing Fair!

Click the link about to check out this expo's facebook event for all the information you need. BUT HURRY, it's Wednesday, February 8th, from 6-8pm. AKA TOMORROW. Or today if you're reading this late...

Head on over to the GSU Backcourt to meet some of the area's realtors and other city reps to get a feel for what moving off campus could do for you. I love it. You might too.

Keep being you, BU, and good luck with housing!

Beantown Challenge!

Hey Terriers,

Want a chance to win $500 dollars in LevelUp credit? Or how about a year's worth of Agganis concert tickets?

Screen Shot 2012-01-31 at 3.39.18 PM

This year, BU's ready to dominate the Beantown Challenge for the second year in a row. Check out our Facebook event page to learn more and start playing.

Good luck!

It’s Game Time, Baby.

I don't remember much about the 2008 Super Bowl. I have literally repressed it in my memory, the way people repress traumatic incidents. What I do remember is that it was the Giants v. Pats. NY vs. New England. And the Patriots were the heavy favorites. After that...nothing. Couldn't tell you where it was played. Couldn't tell you who the halftime show was. I have literally wiped the events of February 3rd, 2008 from my mind. Even today, four years to the day later, I find it hard to think of it. For years, I have longed for a chance to get even. To reclaim what was rightfully ours. TO CRUSH THE GIANTS. I mean...ahem. I mean...I am an impartial representative of the BU FYI blog. I have no affiliation to either team except for the fact that I am a life-long New Englander who would probably jump in front of a speeding train for Bill Belichick.

Anyway, clearly I will be watching the game. And I bet you will be, too. Now, here's the big question - where will you be watching it? If you're in Indy, well, I hate you and you should stop reading this and go stalk Gronk (if you find him, give him my number). But if you're in Boston, like me, there is a hot spot that you should definitely check out:

Watch this video on YouTube

Yeah, you heard Dean Elmore right - there will be ice skating, food, and four HUGE TV screens playing the biggest game of the year - and possibly one of the biggest games in Patriots history. Agganis Arena, 5 PM on Sunday - BE THERE!

One other note, dear Terriers - please stay safe and please stay smart! Win, lose or draw, we all have to remember to be respectful of one another and this awesome city that we call home. Even for someone as passionate about the game as I am, I am keeping in mind that, in the end, it's just a game. (WITH THAT BEING SAID, GO PATS!!!!)

Patriots Pride Forever,

Julia

Secret Valentine ;)

Hey there, Terriers!

Valentine's Day is approaching, and I'm sure the student body is split between excitement and apathy, but there's one thing we can all be pumped about: the Dean of Students' secret valentines.

valentine's day wallpaper-takeaweirdbreak.blogspot.com-valentines_day_background_018

Keep your eye out for DOS staff members who will be carrying a bunch of heart shaped cards. There's a note written on each one and a special gift for anyone who can figure out the clue.

Confused? Good. That's our Valentine's Day gift to you, Terriers.

So keep being you, BU, and I hope you all find a special way to spend the holiday.

sh*t Nobody Says at BU

Hey BU,

The parody videos of "sh*t ____ says" and "sh*t nobody says" have reached a whole new level. This weekend, we stumbled upon this gem from BU students Katie McCormick and Allison Lynch.

We certainly hope you all know who Dean Elmore is at this point.

Happy Monday, terriers!

Let’s Get Made

Happy Friday, BU!

Tired of the day-to-day routine?  Been meaning to make a big change? Well here's your big break, terriers.

MTV will be coming to campus on February 7th and 8th to cast for their newest episode of MADE. Yeah, that's right—MTV is jumping into the big leagues of college campuses to hunt down their new success stories. I think we're more interesting than high school students anyways, so, good call, MTV.

mtv_made

Be sure to check out BU Central's Facebook Event for all the details, and start thinking about what you're going to say to get your story heard.

Keep being you, BU, and get ready to get MADE.
