Thanksgiving day is a national holiday in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. The original Thanksgiving Day was in 1621. When the Pilgrims who desired to become free from religious restrictions came from England, it was an extremely cold winter. Many people died because of hunger and disease. Fortunately, the Native Americans helped them to make crops when they arrived. The following year, they were able to grow a lot of crops. The Pilgrims commemorated their fortune and gave thanks to the Native Americans. This was the first original Thanksgiving Day. However, at that moment this holiday was not a national holiday...
In 1941 President Franklin Roosevelt decided that the fourth Thursday in November would be a national holiday: Thanksgiving Day. Currently, during the Thanksgiving holiday, people cerebrate with relatives gathering at one house to eat a big meal, traditionally with Turkey as the main dish, and side dishes like mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and many other dishes!
Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving day. This is because it is regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Many retailers are going to offer a discount sale to kick off the Christmas shopping season. In addition, this “Black Friday” means that retailers can make a lot of money on this day. It will be crowded everywhere. If you haven’t joined in Black Friday, you should. You will probably have a great experience!
Cyber Monday is the Monday following Thanksgiving day. Cyber Monday is similar to Black Friday, but the difference between the two is shopping online versus going out to shop at retail stores. For example, Amazon or other online shops are going to sell goods cheaper than usual. Perhaps you can purchase your favorite goods cheaper online!

On November 5th, 8 CELOP students visited 90.9 WBUR, which is a department of Boston University, and a National Public Radio (NPR) member station. They are a fast-paced public radio station offering an exciting and creative work environment. Did you know that 90.9 WBUR’s location is right above CELOP, on the third floor!?
The most interesting part of the tour to me was the recording studio. We could enter the recording studio while they were broadcasting. It was a great experience for me to see their jobs. In addition, they told us that most people who are working at this radio station learned journalism before at college.
You can listen to this radio from your smartphone too. Download the app! It will provide great material for learning English: www.wbur.org

Have you ever visited BU’s main library: the Mugar Memorial Library? I guess most students have gone at least once. Then, have you ever checked the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center (HGARC) in the library? There are plenty of documents, poems, old newspapers or books, some belonging to famous politicians and celebrities. Many exhibits in the library surprised me. According to the Archive staff, these are only a few selected documents and they have more in storage. In addition, if you want to look at them for research, you just need to e-mail them! We have really good resources at BU!
We had a wonderful tour from a staff member who works at the HGARC on November 14th.. The guide told us how to keep these documents from getting damaged. Moreover, he suggested that it is important to keep documents on paper. It was a great opportunity to learn about these precious documents.

The editorial staff took a 5-minute T ride to Soul Soulongtang, a Korean restaurant specializing in hot soups and other Korean dishes, located on the corner of Commonwealth Ave. and Harvard Ave.
Three of us ordered soup dishes with beef short ribs (kalbitang), while Sultan ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap (a hot claypot of rice mixed with a rich spicy sauce and generous amounts of vegetables like carrots, radishes, zucchini, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and an egg). We all shared side dishes including kimchi (spicy pickled cabbage), spicy pickled radishes, potatoes, and a slaw, as well as an appetizer of beef cellophane noodles (japchae). We all loved the food, including Sihun who is from Korea, and even Sultan who had never had Korean food before. The meat and vegetables were all fresh and delicious, and also healthy, with balanced portions of protein, vegetables, and rice. And the spices, oh the spices! They thrill and delight your tastebuds without being too much to handle. The japchae and all of our dishes were piping hot, perfect for the cold weather we are having now, especially the soups.
The only complaint that Felix had was that the side dishes took a long time to be served. Side dishes, called banchan, are usually served soon after ordering, and are enjoyed while you wait for your main dishes to arrive. This was just a minor complaint which does not stop us from saying that it was a wonderful lunch experience, and we all highly recommend Seoul Soulongtang.
From CELOP: take the Green Line B and get off at the Harvard Ave stop. Address: 1245 Commonwealth Ave. Allston, MA

Boston is considered as the historical city of the United States. In 1630, a group of colonists from England founded the city and it quickly became the political, financial, religious, and educational center of the New England region. Later, Boston became known as the “cradle of liberty”, where the Americans started the American Revolutionary war against Britain that would win them their independence.
There are numerous historical places that students may not know about, and they MUST SEE them before leaving this antique city. Today I visited a number of those historic places that I found interesting such as the Freedom Trail, the USS Constitution Museum, Fenway Park, and the African Meeting House, and I enjoyed being there.
The Freedom Trail
Local journalist William Schofield in 1951 recommended building a pedestrian trail to connect together vital local landmarks. By 1953, Boston Mayor John Hynes decided to take Schofield’s idea seriously and built the Freedom Trail.
The USS Constitution
The USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship in the world. The ship protected America for nearly an entire century.
The African Meeting House
In 1783, Massachusetts became the first U.S state to declare slavery illegal. As a result, Boston became a desired location for southern black slaves.
Fenway Park
Fenway Park is a baseball park for the Red Sox in Boston; it has been the home of the Red Sox since it opened in 1912. Moreover, Fenway Park is considered to be the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball (MLB).
This short gray cashmere dress is pleated at the bottom but fitted at the top with a red belt around the waist. The black short-sleeve jacket is made from wool, with a design inspired from formal suits. The knitted wool scarf will keep you warm and stylish. The black leather boots come with red laces and fur trim.
The style is a perfect fit for a short person with a full upper-half of the body. The short dress with the pleats portrays the body to be taller. The fitted top, along with the jacket and the scarf, show the body to be smaller and direct the focus away from the chest to the neck and face.
