On October 16th, 2015, CELOP students went apple picking. There were more than 40 students, and we left at 2:00 PM.

First, we traveled there by big comfortable bus. Most of the students were chatting and taking pictures. The weather was so nice and the view was beautiful. There were a lot of colorful trees. When we were there we saw a lot of pumpkins. Then someone who worked there asked us to follow her. She gave us bags to collect the apples we picked. After that we went by car inside the garden. Then we began picking apples and they asked us to try them. They were so delicious! I have never tried such a delicious apple like the one I picked. After we collected our apples, they gave us some snacks such as apple juice, apple donuts, and coffee.  We really enjoyed the experience.

That’s Interesting! 90.9 WBUR Tour

By Rina Hirate

WBUR 1
WBUR 2
WBUR 3

On November 5th, 8 CELOP students visited 90.9 WBUR, which is a department of Boston University, and a National Public Radio (NPR) member station. They are a fast-paced public radio station offering an exciting and creative work environment. Did you know that 90.9 WBUR’s location is right above CELOP, on the third floor!?

The most interesting part of the tour to me was the recording studio. We could enter the recording studio while they were broadcasting. It was a great experience for me to see their jobs. In addition, they told us that most people who are working at this radio station learned journalism before at college.

You can listen to this radio from your smartphone too. Download the app! It will provide great material for learning English: www.wbur.org

That’s Interesting! HGARC Tour

By Rina Hirate
HGARC 1Have you ever visited BU’s main library: the Mugar Memorial Library? I guess most students have gone at least once. Then, have you ever checked the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center (HGARC) in the library? There are plenty of documents, poems, old newspapers or books, some belonging to famous politicians and celebrities. Many exhibits in the library surprised me. According to the Archive staff, these are only a few selected documents and they have more in storage. In addition, if you want to look at them for research, you just need to e-mail them! We have really good resources at BU!

HGARC 2We had a wonderful tour from a staff member who works at the HGARC on November 14th.. The guide told us how to keep these documents from getting damaged. Moreover, he suggested that it is important to keep documents on paper. It was a great opportunity to learn about these precious documents.
