Research shows that as little as one serving of whole grains daily may help lower the risk of dying from heart disease and cancer. Several research studies have shown that the fiber in whole grains may also help reduce the risk of diabetes. Because whole grains are abundant in vitamin, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals, it is uncertain which of these substances are the disease fighting heroes in these grains, or if some or all of them work in a complementary fashion to provide the protection. Tip: Eat more whole grains such as brown rice, oats, and whole wheat bread and pasta. Snack on popcorn, which is a whole grain. (Who knew?) |
