Julianna

Greetings new COM kiddies! My name is Julianna Flamio and I am a sophomore pursuing a degree in Print Journalism with a minor in Italian Studies. I am originally from Tuckahoe, New York in southern Westchester County.

Growing up in the outskirts of New York City I have always been an urban girl at heart, and so going to college in a city was a MUST for me. As much as I am obsessed with New York, I wanted to experience college life in a city that was not a thirty-minute train ride away from my hometown. Naturally, I gravitated to Boston; a city that I vaguely knew and one that is far (but not too far) away from New York. From its historic charm to the oh-so-charming T drivers and all the trips to the North End in between, believe me when I tell you that living in Boston is one big adventure. By the way Unigo just voted Boston University and Boston the number one place to go to college!  For sure the highlight of college life in Boston is not only BU, but COM. Consider yourself now a member of a huge family of creative minds and society influencers. From the onset of my freshman year I immediately felt as though I was part of the COMmunity because I lived on the best floor in all of BU: 11C, the co-ed COM floor in Warren Towers. 11C is where I met my closest friends and tweeted all of my favorite memories.

Aside from being a new COM Ambassador, I am the Head Style Guru at Boston University for CollegeFashionista, an international blog that reports on campus street style and fashion trends. I am also the social media chair for Boston University’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). BU’s newest Journos, join SPJ and come to our awesome events! Last semester we toured the Boston Globe building, held an internship panel, and hosted a Q & A with international journalists. SPJ has really opened my eyes to the world of Journalism. In the past I wrote for “The Muse” section of The Daily Free Press, interned for a radio show on WTBU, and was the arts and entertainment editor and a member of the PR team of The Buzz magazine. When I am not immersing myself in all things Journalism related on campus, I love to attend “Speak for Yourself’s” poetry slams and BU on Broadway’s shows. This semester I am trying something new: I will be making it a habit to go to Dean Elmore’s “Coffee & Conversation” every Friday afternoon because seriously he is so boss.

When I’m not in COM you can find me behind the receptionist desk at BU Hillel House, fueling up at Starbucks, or daydreaming about Italy and pounds upon pounds of pasta. I am a shameless listener of Adele and a creepy Radiohead fangirl.  On my off hours all I do is watch Bravo. My obsession with the “Real Housewives” franchise, “Top Chef,” and other shows is probably borderline ridiculous. But hey, the prince of Bravo, Andy Cohen, is a BU COM (Journalism) ALUM! Trust me, I’ve begged Mr. Cohen a trillion times on Twitter to visit us. So here is a suggestion COM newbies: join me in a campaign to get Andy Cohen to visit COM.  #AndyCohenCOMback Who’s with me?
