Gary Garber teaches physics and engineering. Gary is Past-President of the New England Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers and has led dozens of professional development workshops. He has recently won teaching awards from the Mass Technology Leadership Council, MIT, and the New England Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. He was the 2011 Suffolk County Science Teacher of the Year, and awarded Exemplary nominee for 2012 ASCD Outstanding Young Educator Award, and 2011 Massachusetts Institute of Technology Inspirational Teacher Award. In 2014 Gary won the NSTA Vernier Technology Award and the 2014 Vernier Engineering Award. In 2015 Gary won the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Foundation Educator Achievement Award.
Gary runs the Boston University FIRST Robotics program. Besides organizing undergraduate and professional mentors for BUA students, his outreach for BU includes running robotics tournaments and workshops using the VEX and LEGO platforms. For the past two years, his team has won numerous awards and traveled to the national championship.
Gary recently completed a sabbatical year. While on sabbatical he designed and built with his students an experiment which he flew with a group of teachers on a NASA Reduced Gravity Flight. Gary is currently consulting at the Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach where he is working in LEGO Robotics Education and is the Design Team lead for an collaborative teacher’s toolkit platform called InterLACE. He also does work for a LEGO and engineering development company called DEILAB. Two years ago he published his first book, Instant LEGO Mindstorms EV3. LAst year, he finished up a more in-depth book on LEGO Mindstorms.
